Michael Cera talks why he loved playing Barbie’s Allan

Barbie

Actor Michael Cera is coming down from the high of playing in yet another mega-success story with 2023’s Barbie, in theaters now. Unlike the rest of the men in the film, Cera plays Allan, Ken’s best friend and confidant. That said — spoilers for the film — he isn’t a fan of the regime the Kens have started after learning about the patriarchy in the real world.

As such, he decides to side with the Barbies and become a supporter of theirs and help them take back their world. This is what Cera really enjoyed about playing the role, he liked being a part of the uprising, according to an exclusive from Comicbook.

“I love that I get to be a part of the uprising. I’m honored that Allan is included in that and he’s just really happy to be there and get rid of all these horses and leather couches.”

This reveal comes after Cera opened up about how he almost quit acting altogether after the near-overnight success of Superbad and Juno. Surprisingly, Cera was far from the first pick for the male lead. Bowen Yang, Dan Levy, and Ben Platt were all tapped to play the role, but they all had to pass due to the three months the movie was filmed in London.

Some of them might be kicking themselves that they couldn’t, what with the hit the film has become and the fun production it sounds like they had.
