Donald Glover attached to write Star Wars spin-off Lando

Lando

Donald Glover may very well pull double duty as both the starring role as well as the writer for Lando, a Star Wars spin-off centered around Lando Calrissian. This news breaks as Haunted Mansion‘s Justin Simien bows out.

In fact, Simien has been out of the project loop since last summer, according to Above the Line. He did that so he could focus more on his duties for Disney’s Haunted Mansion, which hits theaters today.

Donald isn’t alone, he will be joined by his brother, Stephen. Stephen’s previous experience is mostly behind the scenes — most recently, he was a writer for his brother’s Swam series earlier this year.

It should come as no surprise that Donald will take the role of Lando, considering he took over the role from Billy Dee Williams during 2018’s prequel film, Solo. It was also a very much hush-hush thing, as the duo inked a deal with Disney well before even the WGA strike kicked off on May 2.

That said, it seems the two haven’t done anything associated with the project since the writer strike began.

Despite its high-profile IP, Solo wasn’t as hot as Disney expected, raking in $392 million worldwide, leading to hesitance in greenlighting a full-blown Solo 2-type thing. Spin-offs, on the other hand, are fair game.
